Two years ago, the podcast “Serial” took the world by storm. Adnan Syed was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in Baltimore, Maryland, and was serving a life sentence. But after questions about Syed’s trial, including the omission of a possible alibi witness, came to light, Judge Martin Welch vacated Syed’s conviction. Syed will now have a new trial, but he obviously doesn’t want to sit around in prison in the meantime. He wants to be released on bail while he waits to be tried again. Syed, who was a high school senior at the time of Lee’s murder, has spent almost half his life behind bars.
