Trump’s campaign manager Kellyanne Conway was perhaps a little too harsh when criticizing Mitt Romney over the weekend. “I’m all for party unity but I’m not sure we have to pay for that with the secretary of state position,” she said. Romney used to be pretty anti-Trump, calling him a “fraud” and not worthy of the presidency. But now Trump might pick him for one of the most important roles in his government–secretary of state–and Conway expressed her resentment, warning of a “backlash.” This made many people speculate about just how divided the Republican Party is and why she would publicly shoot down a candidate for the post rather than discuss it privately.
Monday morning saw reports of Trump being “furious” with Conway’s comments.
Close aides to Trump say that Conway is just pushing her own agenda, while Conway herself says that she is listening to the opinions of Trump’s voters who see it as a betrayal to choose Romney.
The bizarre 2016 election/soap opera continues.
