Yesterday, the police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile in Minnesota in July was charged with second degree manslaughter. Castile was a black man who was unarmed when he was pulled over but told the officer, Jeronimo Yanez, that he had a gun in his car. Yanez shot Castile, unprovoked, while his girlfriend and her four-year-old daughter were still inside the car, filming the whole thing.

The video, which went viral, caused a national uproar. Sadly it was preceded by another fatal shooting, of Alton Sterling, only a day before. Yanez is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. Castile’s family said they support the decision to charge Yanez and that they are hopeful for justice.
