Last night, Senator Ted Cruz brought his family to the White House to dine with President Donald Trump. That may have been an awkward dinner party, given the tense relationship between Trump and Cruz, who battled it out for the Republican nomination less than a year ago. Trump was notably criticized for getting personal when he tweeted out a mean-spirited photo of Cruz’s wife, Heidi.
Cruz also gave a speech at the RNC when he chose not to endorse Trump and instead encouraged listeners to “vote your conscience.” While Cruz eventually endorsed Trump, it’s safe to say this wasn’t a friendship in the making.
Apparently the Trumps and the Cruz family had a fine time last night. Cruz’s daughters even posed for a photo with Trump and a stuffed giraffe. But a lot of people still felt at least a little bad for Heidi:
