Judge Declares Mistrial in Cosby Case

Over the weekend, the judge in the Bill Cosby case declared a mistrial, as jury members failed to reach a verdict. Cosby is being tried for three counts of aggravated indecent assault against Andrea Constand. But more than 50 women have accused him of similar assaults over the years. As the jury couldn’t agree on a verdict, Judge Steven O’Neill had to declare a mistrial after 52 hours of deliberations over five days.

Now, there will likely be another trial. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said he wants to continue moving the case forward as soon as possible, as people want answers and Constand deserves a verdict. This probably is a good development for Cosby: “It is not time for Cosby to pop the champagne, but a mistrial makes the prosecutor’s case harder to prosecute,” criminal defense attorney Stuart Slotnick told CNBC.
