Yesterday a group of inmates took four prison guards and other inmates hostage at a maximum-security prison in Smyrna, Delaware. Following protocol, all state prisons were locked down during the incident. The inmates reportedly demanded better living conditions and prison reforms. They made a hostage call a local media outlet, The News Journal, to convey their demands.
One of the callers also mentioned the president as a concern: “Donald Trump. Everything that he did. All the things that he’s doing now. We know that the institution is going to change for the worse,” the voice said, and then stated that the prisoners also want education and rehabilitation. The situation went on for nearly 20 hours and one male guard was killed. All other hostages were released.
