Some Republicans Want to Cut Social Security

Some Republicans in Congress are planning to make significant cuts and changes to Social Security, according to a proposal drafted by Representative Sam Johnson (R-TX). The changes include raising the age to receive full benefits from 67 to 69, a more tight-fisted cost of living index, and reducing benefits for wealthier retirees.

Donald Trump had said on the campaign trail that he would not be cutting Social Security, so the news of the proposal prompted Senator Bernie Sanders to challenge Trump. “Tell the American people you are going to keep your campaign promises,” he said in a video.
