Elder Abuse Is Real, We’re Just Not Paying Attention

Jackasses across America are taking degrading pictures of elderly people in nursing homes and posting them on social media. So just in case you didn’t know, old folks get cyber bullied, too, by the people who are supposed to be taking care of them. NPR states that these include photos and videos of residents who were naked, covered in feces, or even deceased. They also include images of abuse.

Federal health officials are taking a stand and cracking down on this awful behavior. Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa has been especially vigilant in calling on local departments of health and nursing homes to tighten their policies for preventing and punishing this kind of abuse. He also sent letters to social media companies, urging them to keep an eye out. How horrible!
