This week, a North Carolina man led police on a brief pursuit before he was finally stopped for speeding, only a short distance from his home. Witnesses say the man, now known as Daniel Kevin Harris, was shot and killed by a state trooper, almost immediately after exiting the car. They also say that Harris was trying to communicate with the officer using sign language. Police later reported Harris was hearing and speech impaired. His brother told police that Daniel possibly did not know what the police officer wanted and was most likely afraid.
I know we’re all tired of these “shoot first, ask questions later” incidents , but this was avoidable.
Daniel Kevin Harris was 29 years old and had a 4-year-old son.
