Twitter is suing the U.S. government after it asked the tech company for information about who is behind an anti-Trump Twitter account with the handle @ALT_USCIS. Last month, the Department of Homeland Security demanded that Twitter hand over information about who was using the account, which had been tweeting negatively about Trump’s immigration policies. But Twitter called the request unlawful and said that it “would have a grave chilling effect on the speech of that account in particular and on the many other ‘alternative agency’ accounts that have been created to voice dissent to government policies.”
Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden criticized the Trump Administration for wasting taxpayer money by trying to find out who an anonymous critic on the internet is. And the Twitter account in question fired back:
