Man Hands Portland Politician a Pepsi, It Doesn’t Lead to World Peace

A protester speaking at a Portland, Oregon city council meeting on Wednesday was obviously inspired by the much-discussed Pepsi ad featuring Kendall Jenner handing a cop a can of Pepsi at a protest. The man, Carlos Enrique, tried the same tactic with Mayor Ted Wheeler yesterday. Enrique told the mayor that he was surprised by how many people treat local politicians. “What I realized is that the language of resistance has not been properly translated to you. So this is for you,” he said. Then Enrique got up from his seat and moved toward the mayor, reaching for a can of Pepsi. Council members freaked out, as they likely thought he was reaching for a weapon.

“Don’t do that again. Not a smart move,” the mayor responded, and added, “if this were the Boston City Council that would have ended differently.” Council members clearly didn’t get the reference, and Enrique was escorted out.
