A police video shows officers responding to a 911 call from a Florida home telling Latina Herring to “stop calling 911 to make accusations you don’t know about,” after she called the police about her boyfriend’s behavior. A few hours later, the boyfriend, Allen Cashe, shot her and her 8-year-old son to death in their home. He also shot and injured Herring’s other son and her father. After leaving the house, Cashe shot two bystanders on the street, including a high school student who was waiting for the school bus.
News about the officers telling Herring to stop calling 911 shortly before she was murdered sparked outrage on social media, and a lot of people pointed out that this is a reality for many domestic abuse victims when they ask law enforcement for help.
