South Park is back and its writers didn’t shy away from mocking one of the biggest controversies of the month: Colin Kaepernick’s anthem protest.

Whether it’s taking a knee or sitting down during the national anthem, the act of not participating in the “patriotic” sing of the anthem has often been met with unavoidable disdain.

While it seems like everyday some athlete is refusing to stand for the anthem, the outrage and coverage of the outrage seems to drown out the bigger issue of why the athletes are protesting. 

In their season premier this week, South Park made it clear that the media’s merry-go-round coverage of the protests is actually making everything a confusing mess.
