Thousands of Polish women took to the streets on what is now called Black Monday. All dressed in black, they protested against a plan to ban abortions in a country that is already extremely restrictive and Catholic. The number of women who joined the protest was so great that government offices, universities, and schools in 60 cities around the country shut down.
Poland currently allows abortions only if a woman’s life is in danger, if the fetus is suffering from serious medical issues, or in cases of rape or incest. But the new law would ban all abortions, period. A lot of women in Poland are PISSED, and hopefully the authorities will listen.
