In his latest effort to bring the world into the future envisioned by the science fiction of his youth, Elon Musk’s Tesla unveiled solar panels cleverly concealed within roof tiles. Access to energy has always been vital to the modern Western lifestyle. So in recent years, there has been a shift away from a model built around a centralized power distribution center, toward something more modular.

Solar panels and wind turbines allow for electricity to be generated anywhere and there are many Americans who have embraced solar panel systems to essentially reduce their own electric costs to zero, or even make a profit by selling the excess electricity back to the electric companies. The greatest limitation to this wave of electrical entrepreneurs has been space and style.

It is difficult to ensure that your property will receive enough sunlight to benefit from solar panels and often the traditional panels are very unsightly and could diminish property value. Musk’s latest idea provides a pretty good solution to these two problems. The seamless integration of solar panels into the roof tiles will not spoil the home aesthetic and the roofs’ full coverage should at least increase the likelihood of consistent exposure to the sun.
