Icelandic Women Take Their Day Off

On October 24, thousands of Icelandic women walked out of work at 2:38 PM because EQUAL PAY MEANS EQUAL WORK! Icelandic women earn up to 18 percent less than their male counterparts and began protesting wage inequality specifically at 2:38 PM because that is technically when they’d start working for free.

Women’s Day Off first took place in 1975, when 90 percent of Icelandic women went on strike and ceased doing housework and childcare. The strike highlighted the indispensable work women contribute to society.
