It has become common practice throughout the U.S. to include a 911 tax as a means of raising revenue to maintain and upgrade crucial emergency response systems, in the event of an attack, shooting, or hostage situation.
However New Jersey faces another major scandal as reports indicate that the state has spent less than 1 percent of its income from the tax on NextGen911.
This kind of story is nothing new in Jersey. The state has a frustrating tradition of political scandal. Much like other states that also spend less than 1 percent of their income from the 911 tax on emergency systems, New Jersey legislators apparently seem to think that actually upgrading the system would be too much work.
