The city of Orlando will buy the Pulse nightclub, where the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history took place in June, and turn it into a memorial. The price is set to $2.25 million, and the nightclub, which has become a gathering place for mourners, visitors and others, will be left as it is for probably another 12 to 18 months, according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
Dyer said that the goal is to “create something to honor the memory of the victims that are deceased [and] those that were injured, and a testament to the resilience of our community.”
