The British Royal Family is in the news because of Prince Harry’s new girlfriend, American actress Meghan Markle. She is biracial–her mother is African-American–and she has now been harassed by multiple members of the tabloid press.

British media is known for being gossipy and scandalous, but now the prince has had enough. The Sun, among others, has used racist and sexist language when printing gossip about Markle, compared her to his previous girlfriends, said that she is basically “straight outta Compton,” and much more. Today, Prince Harry released an unusual and strong statement calling out the media for their “abuse and harassment.” He asked the press to pause and reflect, pointing out that he was only 12 when his mother Princess Diana was killed in a car crash, fleeing from paparazzi.
