Welcome to RantCrush Top 5, where we take you through today’s top five controversial stories in the world of law and policy. Who’s ranting and raving right now? Check it out below:
It’s 2016 and our President-elect communicates with America through social media rather than interviews or news conferences. And despite the election being over, some of the things he tweets are still quite shocking.
His harsh suggestion yesterday that anyone who burns the American flag should be stripped of their citizenship and/or spend a year in jail upset many.
Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 29, 2016
Trump’s suggestion seemingly came from nowhere. And flag burning is protected under the First Amendment. Many people on social media pointed out that a president is supposed to protect the Constitution, not violate it.
@kingjames104 @realDonaldTrump incredibly unlikely and un-American. Don’t confuse symbols of freedom with actual freedom.

Outspoken Trump critic, actor George Takei, fired back and compared the suggestion to his time spent locked up in a Japanese internment camp during World War II.
I pledged allegiance to the flag every morning inside an internment camp. I would never burn one, but I’d die to protect the right to do so. https://t.co/O5ecSQkyC2
