Yesterday morning, two police officers were killed in cold blood while sitting in their cars in Des Moines, Iowa. A suspect, Scott Michael Greene, 46, was arrested only hours later, after he signaled to an officer passing in a car and asked him to call 911.
Greene had been in contact with the police only a few weeks earlier, when he was found waving a Confederate Flag in front of black students at a high school football game and police asked him to leave. It is unclear what the motive behind the shootings was. Greene was white, as were the police officers.
No matter the motive, the premature deaths of two officers who seemingly did nothing wrong is a tragedy.
