The Netflix series “Making A Murderer” was a huge online hit, telling the story of how a man and his nephew were convicted of murder in 2005 without any hard evidence. When it became pretty clear that police officers had convinced the then only 16-year-old Dassey into confessing, and that his IQ was considered “extremely low,” the public’s interest in the case spiked.
A lower court overturned Dassey’s conviction in August. The same court ordered his release last week. But then the state of Wisconsin filed an emergency injunction to keep him behind bars and yesterday a federal appeals court agreed. They did not give a reason for the decision and Dassey, now 27, will stay locked up for the time being.
