West Virginia Officials Face Backlash for Facebook Post

A female West Virginia official sparked uproar across the country after posting a super racist Facebook status about Michelle Obama. The official, Pamela Ramsey Taylor, wrote, “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.” Beverly Whaling, who at the time was the mayor of Clay County, replied to the post saying, “Just made my day Pam.” After a few days of sharp criticism, Whaling resigned as mayor and Taylor is on leave.

A written apology from the mayor reads, “I was referring to my day being made for change in the White House! I am truly sorry for any hard feeling this may have caused! Those who know me know that I’m not in any way racist!”
