The list of influential and amazing people that passed away in 2016 keeps getting longer. Yesterday, iconic PBS journalist Gwen Ifill died at 61 after a long battle with cancer.
Gwen Ifill was a role model to me and to every woman, especially black women who took up the calling of journalism. Honored to have met her. pic.twitter.com/agHfA1aIQV

Ifill was groundbreaking as a journalist and as a black woman in a field dominated by white men. She was part of the first all-female anchor team on a network nightly news show for PBS, she moderated two vice presidential debates and one presidential primary debate, and was a huge role model for young women.
Gwen Ifill was a trailblazer and a bright light in journalism. She informed and challenged us, and did so with grace. I will miss her.

Never met Gwen Ifill but always felt like I knew her. So sad to say goodbye to a trusted voice.
