A U.S. state has elected an openly LGBT governor for the first time in history. Kate Brown won the race in Oregon—she was the incumbent but running for election for the first time. She stepped in as governor after the previous one resigned after an influence-peddling scandal in 2012.
Brown is bisexual, and was outed involuntarily in the 80’s. However she proudly stood up for her identity. She has been married to her husband since 1997 and said last month: ”If I can be a role model for one young person that decides that their life is worth living because there’s someone like them in the world, it’s worth it.”
