When French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen went to the town of Brittany for a public appearance yesterday, almost 50 protesters greeted her. The protesters were holding signs and shouting “out with the fascists,” before throwing eggs at her. Le Pen has slipped in the polls recently and most observers of Wednesday’s presidential debate thought that Macron had won. Sixty-three percent of viewers thought he was the “most convincing.”
The debate was heated and filled with personal insults, with Macron calling Le Pen a “parasite” and a “liar.” Le Pen accused political newcomer Macron of being a puppet of current President Francois Hollande, and also suggested that he might have an offshore bank account. Macron replied by calling it defamation and fake news and has launched legal action. The allegation has circulated on alt-right websites that are allegedly linked to Russian interests and have been supportive of President Trump. The French election is only two days away–we’ll have to see who comes out on top.
