On Monday night, Stephen Colbert made an explicit joke during “The Late Show” about President Trump and Vladimir Putin. Many thought it was pretty dumb and some called it homophobic. Now, Trump supporters believe it is enough to call for Colbert to be fired. In his “joke” about Trump, Colbert said, “The only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c**k holster.” After that, a lot of conservatives and members of the alt-right started demanding that CBS get rid of Colbert, calling him homophobic.
On last night’s show, Colbert responded–he didn’t back down from his comments, although he admitted he could have chosen his words a little wiser. He said, “I don’t regret that. He, I believe, can take care of himself. I have jokes; he has the launch codes. So, it’s a fair fight.” That didn’t exactly calm his critics. But a lot of liberals pointed out the hypocrisy in being outraged with a comedian’s joke despite voting for a president who bragged about grabbing women’s genitals.
