According to a new report, Facebook could have a problem with gender bias. Female engineers are allegedly more likely than male engineers to have their code rejected. According to an analysis by a former Facebook engineer, women received 35 percent more rejections than their male counterparts. They also waited 3.9 percent longer than men to have their code accepted and they got 8.2 percent more comments and questions.
In its response, Facebook did its own analysis and said the gap had to do with rank in the company, not gender. So, many women replied saying that just means there are not enough high-ranking and highly-paid women at Facebook. Women only make up 17 percent of the company’s tech department, which hardly sounds like enough. Facebook also reportedly told its employees that “leaking” information like this will make it harder for them to hire women.
