What is the Peeing Pug?

People were really upset the other day when a third statue appeared on the site of the Charging Bull and the Fearless Girl on Wall Street in New York. The duo is accompanied by the Peeing Pug, a piece of art by Alex Gardega. Gardega claims that the statue of the girl is disrespectful to the artist of the bull, Arturo Di Modica, as he worked on his statue for many years and fought the city to keep it up. He said that the girl is not a piece of art by an individual artist, but a PR trick by a corporation. “This is corporate nonsense,” he said. “I decided to build this dog and make it crappy to downgrade the statue, exactly how the girl is a downgrade on the bull.”

The little dog is peeing on the statue’s left leg. The vulgarity upset people and Gardega was accused of being misogynistic. But Gardega also received some support, given the controversy over the installation of the Fearless Girl in the first place. Di Modica has sued the company that placed the Fearless Girl there for trademark and copyright infringement. The artist behind the girl, Kristen Visbal, has not commented on the new addition.
