President Trump’s first international trip has now taken him to Belgium, where he will have a meeting with NATO leaders in Brussels. However, the people of Belgium don’t seem too pleased to have the American president in their country. Brussels is the headquarters of both NATO and the European Union, and Trump has encouraged more countries to follow Britain’s example and leave the union. He also once referred to Brussels as a “hell hole,” an insult that hasn’t been forgotten.
Yesterday, 9,000 people gathered to protest Trump and his policies. “He’s very unpopular in Europe. People don’t think he’s very intelligent,” said political consultant Lawrence Kerknawi to NBC. “I don’t think Trump is really a threat to Europe. There’s a lot of blah, blah, blah, that goes on but not much action,” added Belgian Israel Jofflot. In addition to the NATO summit, Trump is meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and some EU representatives.
