Yesterday, a new Miss USA was crowned and many were happy to see a woman of color as the winner. Kara McCullough, from the District of Columbia, is the new titleholder of the pageant previously owned by Donald Trump. This year, a majority of the top 10 contestants were black; there were also five contestants in the pageant that are immigrants.
But when the winner was asked whether or not health care is a right or a privilege, she answered that it is a privilege that you earn if you work hard. People on social media reacted with shock. “As a government employee, I’m granted health care. And I see firsthand that for one, to have health care, you need to have jobs,” McCullough said.
McCullough’s answer was not popular, especially amid a national debate on what American health care legislation should look like.
