A new statue has been placed right by the famous Charging Bull on Wall Street, just in time for International Women’s Day. The statue of a little girl standing in defiance, facing the bull, represents the gender disparity on corporate boards and in the finance world, according to the group State Street Global Advisors, which is responsible for the installation. The statue is made of bronze in the same style as the bull, and it was put up in the early morning hours of Tuesday, “guerilla art” style.
The bull was also a “guerilla art” installation–its creator quietly put it up in 1989. It was taken down by the city, but was later permitted to be reinstalled. This time, State Street talked to the city beforehand to make sure the girl can stay for at least a month. If people want her to stay after that, the group is “absolutely on board with that.”
