The New Interior Secretary Rode to Work on a Horse

Yesterday, new Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke came into work on his first day–on horseback. His mode of transportation shocked many people…after all, where in D.C. can you park a horse? Zinke, a former Navy SEAL and Republican congressman, is from Montana, so I guess his cowboy style isn’t that surprising.

But when he got to work he immediately took action that brought outrage from many environmental activists; he overturned a federal ban on lead ammunition for hunters in national parks. This was one of the last directives that Obama issued before leaving office and sought to protect wildlife from lead poisoning, which kills up to 20 million animals each year. Humans who eat animals killed by lead bullets are also at risk. But a repeal of the ban was strongly supported by the NRA. The organization claims, despite scientific evidence to the contrary, that lead bullets are harmless.
