Eighty-One-Year-Old Searching For Coffee Evades Police in Low-Speed Chase

An 81-year-old woman in Texas left her house at 5 a.m. to go look for coffee and breakfast. But someone called the cops after she was seen driving in the wrong direction and in circles. She was stopped by the police, but then she drove away. The police followed her in a very anti-climactic 25 mph chase. It took her 10 minutes to comply with police orders to stop, after which the officers slashed her tires and ordered her out of her car. According to dashcam footage, she seemed to ask, “Why?” The officer says, “Because the police are telling you to.”

When she still didn’t comply, the cops lost their patience and smashed her window and pulled her out. In the video, the cops ask her why she won’t answer their questions, and her reply is, “Because I hate to answer stupid people.”

She ended up spending 14 hours in jail before her son bailed her out for $1,000. The police said she was not under the influence, but it’s understandable that she was testy before getting her morning coffee. “I just was out riding around,” Strader said. “I thought, I’m going to go have me some coffee or a sandwich or something because I hadn’t eaten all day. But I never got it.”
