Nuclear Plant Picked Interns Based on a Bikini Contest

The largest energy provider in the Czech Republic was looking for an intern, and decided that a bikini contest was a great way to find the most qualified one. The nuclear plant, CEZ, posted pictures of 10 high school graduates wearing bikinis and hard hats on its Facebook page, and had people vote for their favorite. The highest vote getter would be crowned Miss Energy 2017 and receive a two-week internship in CEZ’s Temelín station.

“We think photographs are very tasteful. The combination of beauty and the industrial environment gives an interesting result,” the company wrote. However, people were annoyed by the sexist contest, and amid the angry reactions, the company apologized a few days later. It said it would offer all 10 contestants an internship. But we’re just hoping that employees at a nuclear plant need to have qualifications beyond looking good in a bikini.
