Pride 2017: Justin Trudeau Marches in Toronto Festival, Police Break up Istanbul Crowds

Pride festival attendees in Toronto were delighted yesterday when they spotted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the crowd. Trudeau’s sock choice for the day was a Ramadan-inspired pair and he also sported a pink shirt and a maple leaf Pride tattoo on his face. The internet is overflowing with pictures of the PM looking like he had a great time.

But not all countries have come as far as Canada–in Turkey, police used tear gas and rubber bullets on LGBTQ activists who defied the parade ban. It was the third year in a row that Istanbul has had the ban in place, claiming security concerns. A far-right Islamist group had also made threats against the Pride parade. At least 20 people were arrested when police tried to break up the crowd.
