Police Searching for Suspects in Bodega Avocado Attack

It all started so simply: a man in a Bronx bodega was upset after the clerk couldn’t understand what kind of sandwich he was trying to order. But then the customer started throwing avocados at the clerk. His friend joined in the attack, and when they ran out of avocados they started throwing bananas. They also smashed some watermelons and threw merchandise on the floor. The clerk had to undergo surgery for a broken jaw, and another employee had surgery for injuries to his eyes.

The attack reportedly happened on Memorial Day, but police released security footage this week in an attempt to identify the fruit-flingers. And it seemed to pay off–yesterday the police said they had identified one suspect and are trying to find him. But his unusual choice of weapon was the subject of many jokes on social media.
