The creators of “Game of Thrones” are now planning their next move, as their mega hit show “GOT” is on its last season. But a lot of people were horrified when David Benioff’s and D.B. Weiss’ new idea was announced. Their new show “Confederate” will basically depict what would have happened if the South won the Civil War, and slavery still existed. The reactions on social media were not very enthusiastic.
“The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution,” HBO’s description said. But some have worried that Benioff and Weiss can’t necessarily be trusted to handle this concept delicately. “GOT” has already been criticized for only depicting black people as slaves, as well as its unnecessary use of rape scenes. And a lot of people seem fed up with white men making stories about the mistreatment of people of color and women.
