American Citizen Arrested After Shooting U.S. Consular Official in Mexico

An American citizen has been arrested for the shooting of a U.S. consular official in Mexico. The official is in stable condition at a hospital in Guadalajara, and the suspect will be deported back to the U.S. Not much is known about the attack; the identity of the attacker and of the consular official have not yet been made public, and no motive has been pinpointed. But U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry made a statement, thanking Mexico for making such a quick arrest.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City issued a warning for Americans in the area, urging them to be careful and not to “fall into predictable patterns for those movements that are essential. They should vary the times and routes of their movements.”
