Dictionary company Merriam-Webster noticed a spike in searches for the word “fact” after Kellyanne Conway’s weekend comment that Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer used “alternative facts.” So, staff at the company felt the need to inform people about exactly what a fact is.
“In contemporary use, fact is generally understood to refer to something with actual existence, or presented as having objective reality,” a statement on the website said. Then it sent out a tweet linking to that statement. Maybe Conway will take note?
