Violent Tornadoes Rip Through the Southeast, Killing 20

Over the weekend, violent storms hit the southeastern United States and the latest death toll counts 20 people killed by tornadoes. The single deadliest moment was when a tornado hit a mobile home park in Georgia, killing seven people. Half of the 40 homes in the park were “leveled,” according to officials. Other states that were hit hard include Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, and Alabama. In Albany, Georgia, it looked as if a nuclear bomb went off, said County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas in a Facebook live video in which he asked for government assistance.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, is monitoring the situation and has deployed officers to some of the affected areas to assist in any way they can. President Donald Trump addressed the natural disaster as he was swearing in aides in a Sunday ceremony, and said that he had spoken to Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. “Tornadoes were vicious and powerful and strong, and they suffered greatly. So we’ll be helping out the state of Georgia,” Trump said.
