Following the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, many people took to the streets and to social media to call for social and political reform and an end to police brutality. Many looked to the President for words of solidarity and guidance. But for liberal Princeton professor, Cornel West, there was nothing good to be found in Obama’s response to the shootings–he called it “weak.” West said to the Washington Post: “He’s been running from the issue for too long. When he finally gets pushed into a corner, he says something eloquent and articulate. But you’ve got to be able to hit it head on.”
