Several Jewish community centers in different states received bomb threats yesterday. One of them was Kaplen JCC in New Jersey. “The police have completed a thorough sweep of the JCC and have deemed the threat not credible and the building safe,” the center said on its Facebook page around 2 p.m. Other centers in Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee were also threatened.
By Monday evening, police had not yet commented on how the threats were received and whether they were linked. But Jerry Silverman from the Jewish Federations of North America said that he has seen a recent trend of anti-Semitism and normalizing hate speech toward Jews.
