Some Good News: Subway Passengers Get Together to Remove Nazi Graffiti

This weekend, someone painted swastikas and the horrific text, “Jews belong in the oven” on the ads and windows of a New York subway car. New Yorker Gregory Locke captured one man taking action. The passenger said, “hand sanitizer gets rid of Sharpie. We need alcohol,” and suddenly most passengers on the train got together to grab hand sanitizer and tissues from handbags and backpacks. They then wiped the messages off the train. The moving photos went viral after Chelsea Clinton shared them on Twitter and praised the riders’ actions. Even though hatred seems widespread in the world right now, small actions like this one show that hate will not win.
