A feminist group in China has been blocked from social media for posting some anti-Trump articles. The ban came after the group “Feminist Voices” shared an article from the Guardian that described the Trump Administration’s “aggressively misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and racist policies.” The group also urged people to protest for women’s rights on March 8, which is International Women’s Day. The social media site Weibo then declared the group would be banned from the site for a month because the article “violated national laws and regulations.”
The group has over 80,000 followers. “This is about attacking civil society…They want to take away our voice,” said Lu Pin, a founder of Feminist Voices. Sensing that the coming year will be very politically tense in China, she added, “It’s just the beginning.”
