The other day, Icelandic President Guðni Jóhannesson visited a local high school and told the students that he is no fan of pineapple on pizza. He even went so far as to say that if he could, he would ban pineapple as a pizza topping outright. After that, the internet went bananas and tried to determine if tropical fruit on pizza is a good or bad idea.
Yesterday the president wrote on his Facebook that he likes pineapples, just not on pizza, and that he is happy he can’t ban what people eat. “Presidents should not have unlimited power,” he wrote, and added that he wouldn’t want to live in such a country. Jóhannesson is an extremely popular president with a 97 percent approval rating. He was applauded for refusing a pay raise and donates 10 percent of his pre-tax salary to charity. And for the record, his favorite pizza topping is seafood.
