Uber is in hot water yet again after an engineer who used to work for the company wrote a blog post alleging that Uber routinely ignored her reports of sexual harassment. According to the engineer, Susan J. Fowler, her manager made repeated sexual advances toward her, but when she disclosed what happened to HR they told her she could either switch teams or just live with it. They promised to give him a warning, but no concrete punishment.
Per Fowler’s account, the HR department said that this was the man’s first offense and they didn’t want to reprimand him because he was a “high performer.” However, Fowler says she later found out that many more women had levied accusations on the same man, but Uber still did nothing and even threatened to fire her when she spoke up. Uber CEO Travis Kalanick responded in a statement to Gizmodo, saying “What she describes is abhorrent and against everything Uber stands for and believes in.”
