Kesha Releases Potentially Damning Emails From Dr. Luke

Pop-star Kesha has released emails between her producer Dr. Luke and her manager, in which he shames her for her weight and makes other offensive comments about her appearance. In 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke accusing him of physical, mental, and sexual abuse. She said that his abuse caused her to develop an eating disorder. But the judge dismissed her claims and ruled that she was still bound by her contract with Dr. Luke and Sony, forcing her to keep working with her alleged abuser. Now her lawyers are hoping that the emails will provide enough evidence to move forward with those claims, and she can “be free from her abuser and rebuild her physical, emotional, and mental health,” as her lawyer wrote in the court documents that were recently filed.

The emails describe how the producer criticized her for breaking her juice fast. Kesha’s manager Monica Cornia wrote that he should be more supportive, as Kesha is a human and not a machine. Dr. Luke wrote back, “if she were a machine that would be way cool and we could do whatever we want.” The manager also alleges that Dr. Luke wanted Kesha to go out clubbing more, and told her, “I don’t give a s**t what you want.”
