Lena Dunham’s Cringy Interview

A cringe-worthy “Today Show” interaction with Lena Dunham has reignited the debate about what’s appropriate to say on TV. This morning, “Girls” actress and creator Lena Dunham appeared on the “Today Show” to promote the final season of her show. But when host Maria Shriver said she has seen a few episodes of it already, Dunham said, “You saw a penis, right?”

Shriver seemed totally caught off-guard and had a hard time finding her words. Dunham probably didn’t think what she said was going to be controversial and threw up her hands in defeat, jokingly saying, “I won’t be coming back!” Shriver turned to co-host Matt Lauer, who was off camera, for help, but he stayed out of it, laughing. Dunham seemed surprised at Shiver’s reply, “That’s the difference between generations: I wasn’t brought up talking like that.” As the cameras kept rolling, it made for a great TV moment and a quick Friday morning laugh! But Dunham’s interview is sure to raise some questions about what is and is not permissible on a daytime TV show–as Shriver herself said, “I’m not sure you’re allowed to say that on television!”
