According to a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics, the life expectancy for Americans actually decreased last year. This is the opposite of what should happen in a developed country.
From 2014 to 2015, the life expectancy dropped by about a month. The average life expectancy for Americans is now 78.8 years.
The drop is believed to be from increased rates of heart disease, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and cancer, among other issues. “We’re reaping what we’ve sown. It’s a clear causal chain,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Time to eat healthier and go for a jog, maybe.
